Beginners Guide to Allotments

!±8± Beginners Guide to Allotments

Certain important things should be analyzed before beginning the cultivation of new allotments. The time, money, support and other resources required for the new allotments should be analyzed and kept ready.

Cultivating a new allotment requires more work in the beginning stage for cleaning and managing. The time required for managing the plot depends on its size. About 2 hours is necessary for proper management of the plot. This duration differs from every season and the kind of crops cultivated.

At the beginning stage, the plots will overgrow. Hence, during the initial stage, it is necessary to spend more time for clearing and digging. For maintaining the plot during the first season, friend's support may also be received.

When looking at the plot for the first time, it is necessary to decide the actions required for making the plot suitable for cultivation. The gardening activities must be planned in such a way that it suits the capability of a person and duration that a normal individual can spend. The most important part of gardening is soil digging. This activity should be performed with correct intervals. Otherwise, it may lead to serious back injuries.

Recently created plots and old plots renewed after a long time requires an intense soil digging before planting the crops. In case the plot was maintained perfectly by the previous gardener, tools like fork or spade will be enough for soil digging. This digging process is helpful making the earth loose, allowing proper passage of air and moisture inside and also to divide the rough intact earth. In case, the long grasses and weeds are overgrown in the plot they must be trimmed using a trimmer or hedge clipper. Large leafed crops like courgettes and potatoes are suitable for the weedy plots. These kinds of crops are helpful for making the weeds smooth. A potting shed is helpful for gardening purpose. These potting sheds are helpful for re-potting the plants and soil mixing.

During the initial stages of cultivation, weeds should be removed frequently to protect the crops from the overgrowth of weeds. The most suitable season for digging the soil is the autumn or early winter. This action will be appropriate for sowing the seeds in the spring season. It is highly recommended to get advice and tips from the representation of the site or the plot neighbors.

If getting an allotment from a council is very tough, it is better to borrow a small part of the garden of the neighbors in exchange of vegetables or fruits. To provide nourishment to the soil, hiring a cultivator is the best choice.

Allotment team offer beginner's package for new allotment owners. It can be received from the site representative. If the site reps do not provide the beginner's package, enquiring from the allotment team will be helpful.

Uni-horse Garden Tractor

This is our Uni-horse garden tractor. It has a 419cc single cylinder side valve 4 stroke BSA Petrol Engine and can go from 0 to 7mph in just over 6 seconds. Orignally, it came with: - a single furrow reversible plough - a saw bench - a 38" rotary grass cutter - a cultivator frame - and a grader blade ...none of which it has now. It can be started either by battery using the starter button, or as it is now, started by wrapping a short rope around the manual starter pulley. This is because as a small child, I had a habit of chucking keys over the hedge (including those for our JCB, garden shed, ride-on mower and my fathers garage). I enjoyed riding around on this tractor very much as a kid and loaded and moved many an item in our trailer using the toe-hook my dad fitted. Even though it is a shame to get rid of it, we will be putting the tractor up for sale on ebay soon. My username is Kedishen1. The music in the video is called "Yakety Sax" by The Coasters.
